Hello, I'm new here, I'm a quantum mechanics/why-the-f**k-are-we-here enthusiast,
Please feel free to check out the scientific sh*t I post on my journal and leave some feedback on what you think of the content and my style, there are only three articles so far.

"Gamers Virus" turns your machine into spam motherload
BBC News

The Bagle b virus, which is suspected to have been written by an Ultima fan due to it's settings, is now in the wild. The problem being, after February 25th, it turns your computer into a spamming relay.

Updating of antiviral software is recommended.

Mythica Cancelled
Mythica, the online MMORPG has been killed by Microsoft. A couple of weeks ago, it was reported that Mythic owners were suing over 'similarities' and tho this is claimed not to be the reason for the culling of this project, it looks suspicious.

All in all, a very bad week for Microshaft.

A British FBI?
What's next, the CIA join in on these shores?

It's been suggested that there may be a massive shake up of the current structure of the British police force.
"The Serious Organised Crime Agency (SOCA) is expected to have more than 5,000 investigators concentrating on crimes such as drug trafficking, people smuggling and fraud."

I think leaning further and further towards the American way of life, though laudable in some senses, is going to cripple our national identity. Not to mention, the burden of proof being lowered is something very worrying to the rights of those innocently accused.

Micro$haft and the XML patent
Are Micro$haft really going after the patent to XML?
Seemingly they are, sort of, in one of those round about "I'm going to see what I can grab" kind of ways.

Preliminary reports from /. suggest that Micro$haft are going after the patent to XML.

If anyone can make head nor tails of the actual article that is linked from here, please comment and clear this up. It's safe to say, whatever is going on, it's very strange, and odder still it's taken 3 years to come out that they did it.

So here it is
Welcome to the community!

This is a place to share any news you think would be cool for other 'geeks'. Geek being an all encompassing, "I think for myself, I don't let others make up my mind, I like computers, discussing stuff, and being intelligent" term, rather than the degoritory playground version.
I've personally been collecting this stuff and posting it in another journal for months, and decided to go one better, cause it's fun to discuss this stuff.
So feel free to post to the comm with anything you've spotted, and share stuff with others.

Couple of rules:
  1. If you've got more than one 'piece' to post, please seperate them into seperate posts.
  2. Try to keep the headlines on the posts honest - if people are skimming for stuff, it's easier to decide if something is worth reading by title. PLEASE don't (no subject) stuff.
  3. Stick anything really long under a cut :)
  4. Respect everyone's opinion, cause all opinions are, technically valid.

If I can help you with anything, let me know :)
